“‘Our goals can only be reached to through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.’” - Pablo Picasso. It is always so corny to start an introduction off with a quote, but as a graphic designer, artist, and a huge fan of Pablo Picasso, I believe this is
something to learn and live by.
I grew up a very artistic lifestyle. I was just one years old when I first held a paintbrush, and I instantly knew that art was my special skill. I am a self-taught artist but growing up, I took art classes at a local community art center in Portland. I remember in private school, I never really paid much attention to other subjects and only focused on my art. When I started middle school, I took every art class they had to offer. I tried my hand at 3-D art such as sculpting and
ceramics, but those were not as much fun to me. When I was in high school, I took 2-D Studio art, including two years of A.P. 2-D Studio Art. I entered many art competitions, including Scholastic Arts & Writing. I won many awards, including a silver medal at the international level.
When I heard about graphic design, I was a junior in high school. I had no idea what graphic design entailed, but I got to learn and understand it when I started college. I only knew my way around Adobe Photoshop, because I had to use it in high school. If I had pursued a career in just studio art, I would not be able to do as much as a graphic designer gets to do. I am very glad that I chose the graphic design path. It is one of the most interesting subjects I have ever learned, and I hope to achieve my future goals.
